the latest from the "not gonna do again" files

Got my flu shot yesterday. Didn't think about it too much, even though I work with outpatients now I still come into contact with neutropenic patients. I'm not quite as terrified now of possibly killing someone just by having the sniffles. Occupational health nurses give the best shots--you never feel them at the point of impact, probably because they do so gosh darn many of them....

Oh but what was on the agenda for the evening? My 3rd Aikido class. (Yes, Andrew has convinced me to join him in this adventure. Let me just say that his kendo background really helps, and my lack of any martial arts training whatsoever combined with my questionable coordination skills really doesn't help.)

I'll do another post on Aikido sometime so that the un-informed can become informed, but let's just say that my left arm was feeling quite sore by the time class began. And a great deal of the practice involved rolling (very slowly, might I add) in various ways; mimicking the manners in which an opponent might overcome you...
Although the guy in this photo series above is not in traditional garments, this is exactly one of the rolls I got to practice.

Very sore left deltoid + rolling slowly head to floor, placing shoulder on floor, weight on shoulder (oouch!--see picture third from left) to finally be on your back like a landed turtle, then shift weight to opposite side and up on the feet again. Repeat.

Not. A. Good. Idea.

Ooh...I feel your pain. After I got my flu shot, I had a hard time even walking the dogs b/c I was so sore (I wasn't that sore last year!), but it improved after 1 day. Then again, I wasn't somersaulting on the floor...
